Who we are

The Sayers Guild was founded in 2024, in the hope of becoming a home-base for Sayers research and discussion in America. It is a place where you can research Sayers seriously, as well as enjoy her sense of humor. While some of us are academics, you definitely don’t need to be an academic to appreciate Sayers here. Please fill out our contact page so we can hear from you!

She received her Ph.D. from MemorialUniversity of Newfoundland in 1994. Her Kent State University Press publication The Seven Deadly Sins in the Work of Dorothy L. Sayers was a finalist for the Edgar Alan Poe Award in 1998. In 2018 Kent State University Press published her even more comprehensive book The Lion in the Waste Land: Fearsome Redemption in the Work of C. S. Lewis, Dorothy L. Sayers, and T. S. Eliot. She is currently writing a book on Lewis’s poetry.

Dr. Brown taught English Literature at Grove City College in northwest Pennsylvania, for twenty-one years until her retirement in 2015.

Janice Brown is a Canadian (born, raised, and educated in Newfoundland) with permanent residence in the US. She lives in Mercer, Pennsylvania with her husband Cliff, and can be contacted at 724-992-8756 or janicehudsonbrown@gmail.com.

Selah Hurd's adventure with Dorothy L. Sayers began through Sayers’s translations of Dante and quickly expanded to the rest of her' work. Now, as a student of English and Communications at Wheaton College, she enjoys her proximity to the Marion E. Wade Center, where she engages with Sayers's unpublished manuscripts and ongoing scholarship. She has worked as a proxy researcher, exploring Sayers’s family papers, early writings, and her unfinished fictional account of Dante’s life. In addition to her interest in Sayers, Selah serves as a Poetry editor for Kodon, Wheaton’s undergraduate journal of literature and art.

Bronwyn Palmer is a History and Education major at Grove City College in Pennsylvania. She serves as the social media manager for Sayers Guild. She is relatively new to the world of Sayers but was first introduced to her writings in high school. Enchanted by Sayers’ works of fiction and plays (The Devil to Pay), Bronwyn looks forward to discovering more about Sayers in addition to helping others foster their growth.

Dr. Lindsey Scholl teaches Medieval Humanities and Latin at Trinity Classical School in Houston, Texas. Many years ago, Scholl suffered a one-two punch from Sayers: first, her mother-in-law loaned her a collection of Wimsey short stories; next, she read “The Lost Tools of Learning” while learning about classical education. After these two blows, Scholl had no choice but to research Sayers further, and then to promote Sayers’s diverse work (BBC plays, a translation of the The Divine Comedy, numerous entertaining letters) to anyone who would listen - including her long-suffering students. She is married to John Scholl.

Scholl hosts the Dorothy L. Sayers Podcast and has published several articles on Sayers’s work. She is currently working on a novel featuring Sayers. She has also published a young adult fantasy trilogy entitled The Advocate Trilogy. You can reach her through the contact page.
